A Summer Vacation to Historic Williamsburg Virginia

Last year we went on a family trip to the East Coast to visit Williamsburg Virginia. We were able to stay at a Williamsburg Plantation timeshare and the accommodations were quite good. I don’t have any real interest in owning a timeshare unit but we were actually able to rent a unit from an individual who was unable to make use of their block of time and by renting their timeshare unit we ended up saving a great deal of money versus the cost of only staying at a hotel for a week.

Colonial Williamsburg is a wonderful place to visit, there is certainly something for everyone. You can master a great deal about how life was back in the 18th century. How people lived, various trades they practiced, the attire they wore and even how they spoke. There are actors that stroll around the area in vintage clothing, sharing stories about the way things were at that time. There is a great deal of historic architecture and a history buff could spend a great deal of time in this area.

As well as all of the historical points of interest there are many other activities to do as well. There is Busch Gardens which has more than 50 rides and other attractions and the home of the Griffin which happens to be the world’s tallest floorless dive roller coaster. There is also a large kids area called Sesame Street Forest which includes rides for the kids as well as a large water area for the kids to play in. If water is your thing Williamsburg is also home to Water Country USA which includes water slides, shopping and restaurants. It’s a cool area with a 1950s and 60s surf theme.

After spending several days in the immediate area of Williamsburg we decided to go out to the coast and spend a bit of time at the beach. Sadly our tranquil trip to the beach was anything but quiet. There were some environmental groups putting on some kind of protest, I think it was about dumping untreated water directly into the ocean. I don’t mind people protesting and I could even get behind their cause but in addition to being rather noisy they also wouldn’t let us be. I had several different people make an effort to get me to sign exactly the same petition to get the government to change things to prevent further pollution of the ocean. I’m not really sure they were protesting against a particular one to go with or the federal government or what exactly but whomever they were demonstrating against is probably going to need to hire a team of pr firms to help restore their reputation.
